RP headphones with newly developed flat diaphragm RP driver built into a housing dyed with traditional Japanese indigo

How indigo-dyed housing is made

Premium RP Technology

Features

This product is the flagship of the RP headphone lineup, carefully assembled at a factory in Japan with the latest Fostex-developed premium grade all-surface-driven planar diaphragm RP driver built into a solid wood housing dyed with Awa indigo from Tokushima, known as the representative indigo dyeing process in Japan. The flagship RP headphones are available in two models, a sealed type and an open type. The one-of-a-kind texture of the traditional indigo dyeing process, which brings out the beauty of the individually different wood grain, and Fostex’s RP technology, a flat diaphragm that has been used for 50 years, play together in this headphone flagship.
*RP and RP technology are Fostex’s proprietary technologies that move the entire surface of the planar diaphragm in regular phase (Regular Phase).

Newly developed premium RP driver

The RP technology all-surface-driven planar diaphragm driver, which has been improved since 1974, has been newly developed with a planar diaphragm that is larger than that of the conventional T50RPmk3/mk4 RP driver. In addition to increasing the number of magnets that sandwich the diaphragm and adopting a newly designed pattern shape for the printed coil, the magnetic circuit components have been redesigned to optimize the magnetic flux distribution, thereby suppressing unwanted resonance in the diaphragm and enabling a sharp response in the rise and fall of the sound. This simultaneously achieves high sensitivity, smooth frequency response, and excellent transient characteristics, enabling accurate and delicate reproduction from heavy bass to high frequencies, thereby realizing the ability to express a clear sound image in space with a clear sense of localization.

Hard maple solid wood housing finished with the traditional Japanese dye "Hon-Ai".

The solid hard maple wood housing, known as a material for guitars, is dyed with Awa indigo from Tokushima Prefecture, which has long been valued for its high quality dyeing. The wood is carefully dyed one by one by skilled craftsmen, resulting in a deep indigo color that beautifully reveals the unique grain of the hard maple wood. Dyeing with “Hon-Ai,” which is made exclusively from the plant indigo, allows hard maple’s hard and heavy specific gravity to be utilized without adding unnecessary color to the sound, allowing the user to enjoy a firm, deep bass range and clear, extended highs. The open-type TH1100RP reproduces a natural soundstage with high resolution and a less tiring listening experience, which is appropriate for the premium open-type RP, through the use of double aluminum etched parts in the housing aperture and careful fine-tuning of the aperture ratio and each internal part.

<About dyeing with Awa Ai
Awa Ai is a natural dye with a long history in Japan, and is well known in ukiyoe prints of the Edo period (1603-1868). The TH1000RP/TH1100RP housings are dyed using “Hon-Ai” dye, which is made exclusively from natural tade indigo that does not damage wood, and is applied and dried repeatedly by hand over a period of days. During this process, changes in temperature and humidity affect the drying of the dye, and the conditions under which the fine colored particles penetrate into the wood tissue vary depending on the grain of each housing. The result is a one-of-a-kind housing with a deep blue hue unique to indigo, while the smooth grain of the maple wood beautifully emerges, and the texture of each housing is different from the one on the left and right.

*Hon-Ai, a housing dye, is also used as part of the blue in Hokusai Katsushika's "Fugaku Sanjurokkei" (Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji).

Newly adopted lightweight magnesium alloy mechanical parts

Magnesium alloy is newly used for mechanical parts such as the housing base plate and hanger to reduce weight by 20% compared to aluminum, and rubber packing is used for the rotation mechanism to eliminate excess vibration as much as possible. The design concept of taking every detail of each part into consideration has further improved the wearing comfort.

Newly shaped ear pads with new materials

The newly shaped ear pads, which are asymmetrical to optimize the wearing comfort, are made of low-resilience cushions and silk protein synthetic leather that is three times more durable than conventional ear pads, ensuring a comfortable fit even over long periods of listening.

Flexible fitting head pad and headband

The head pad and headband are made of sheepskin, a natural material, for a supple, comfortable fit and a texture that changes with use.

Includes high-purity OFC unbalanced cable

Includes 7N (99.999999%) grade high-purity OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) unbalanced cables, which are free from impurities to the utmost limit to enhance transmission performance.

Uses 7N grade cable for internal wiring. Equipped with highly reliable detachable connector port

Features a detachable connector terminal with rhodium plating for hardness, abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance, and a detachable contact terminal on the headphone body side. An XLR-terminal cable (ET-H3.0N7BL), sold separately, supports balanced connections, and a 4.4mm balanced cable (ET-TH4.4BL) is scheduled for release.
