PD204.
location recorderStereo recording to 12cm DVD-RAM and built-in HD. Field recorder with the latest features.
Features
80GB HDD and 12cm DVD drive as standard
The recording media includes a vibration- and shock-resistant 1.8-inch 80GB HDD and a versatile 12cm DVD multi drive. Direct recording/playback is possible.
The internal HDD is 4.7 GB, the same size as a DVD, and has 16 partitions, enabling simultaneous recording (mirroring, auto-copy) with DVD.
It also has a “background mode” that automatically copies files from the HDD to the DVD when it is in standby or on standby. Of course, manual copying of discs and files after recording is also possible.
The DVD drive is slot-loading and can record directly to DVD-RAM. DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW can also be used for copying and backing up data recorded on the internal HDD.
The internal HDD unit is user-replaceable. A replacement HDD option “EX-HD1” is also available. The HDD unit can also be used for continuous long-time recording across partitions automatically when recording to the HDD.
When using the DVD, the PD204 should be placed on a flat surface, such as a table or cart, in a horizontal position (tilting the stand is acceptable). It cannot be used when placed vertically or slung over the shoulder (built-in HDD can be used).
Analog-like operation
Equipped with the latest digital mixer
The unit is equipped with 4-channel analog input/stereo output (XLR) and 2-channel digital input/output (AES/EBU, XLR), allowing mixing and recording of multiple inputs. This makes it possible to record two main channels plus two channels of background sound, for example. The unit also has auxiliary inputs (XLR x 2) for monitoring, making it perfect for ENG monitoring.
The UDF1.5 disc format and BWF (interleaved format) file format enable efficient transfer of recorded audio files to various DAWs. 16bit/44.1 to 24bit/192kHz recording is supported. DVD-RAM, HDD x 1 The recording time per partition (4.7GB) is approximately 256 minutes at 24bit/48kHz/2 tracks.
The mixer section has a conventional analog interface, but has been digitized for improved sound quality and functionality, as well as reduced power consumption. The mixer is equipped with a gain control using the latest volume control IC and a high-pass filter and limiter to meet the needs of various recording environments.
The maximum number of files that can be recorded on a single partition of DVD-RAM and HDD is 250 files.
*The limiter cannot be used when Fs:176.4kHz or 192kHz is set.
Recordable Time (with 1 HDD partition / 12cm DVD-RAM disc / 4.7GB) Quantization 16bit 24bit Sampling Frequency 44.1kHz 48kHz 44.1kHz 48kHz 88.2kHz 96kHz 176.4kHz 192kHz 2TRK 419 min. 385 min. 279 min. 256 min. 139 min. 128 min. 69 min. 64 min.
The internal HDD (EX-HD1) has a capacity of 80 GB divided into 16 partitions.
Compatible with the latest battery technology for long operation time
Endura batteries (V-mount type) from IDEX, Inc. can be used. The main unit is equipped with two V-mount plates (BATT.1 and BATT.2) as standard, and when using PowerLink-compatible batteries, up to four can be connected.
*The above operating time is not guaranteed, as it varies depending on the operating environment, battery drain, and other factors.
The PD204 does not come with a battery.
It is possible to select and set whether priority is given to BATT.1, BATT.2, or external DC input. If the voltage drops below the set voltage value, the unit has a function that automatically switches to the next power supply after a warning is displayed. The current power supply and its voltage value can be displayed and checked on the screen at the touch of a button on the panel.
When a BMS (Battery Management System)-compliant battery is used, detailed data such as remaining battery capacity, voltage value, and current consumption are displayed.
*Although non-BMS-compatible batteries can be used with PD606/204, BMS-compatible batteries are recommended.

Transfer audio data from internal HDD and DVD to PC at high speed via USB 2.0
USB2.0 for high-speed data transfer to PC
Equipped with a USB 2.0 port for data transfer to a PC. Internal HDDs and DVDs can be mounted directly to a PC for audio data transfer. Future version upgrades are planned to support data copying to USB memory devices using the USB host function.
*Only DVD-RAM is supported for writing from a PC to the PD204’s drive. USB connection compatible OS Windows: 2000, XP SP2, Vista Macintosh: Mac0S9.22 or later, OS X10.4 or later
The internal HDD of the PD204 is recognized as a DVD disc on the PC.
Please be careful! Depending on the OS version, the PD606 may freeze when dismounting the USB mount. In this case, the PD204 battery and AC adapter must be disconnected and the power must be turned off forcibly.
A PC USB keyboard can also be connected for convenient editing, such as changing file names.
Supports timecode recording/playback and various key signatures
Built-in timecode generator with jam-sync function with TC accuracy of ±1ppm (0.0001%) enables recording and playback of SMPTE/EBU format timecode.
The timecode generator has four selectable modes: 24H RUN (synchronized to the internal clock), REC RUN, FREE RUN, and EXT RUN, and supports seven frame rates (23.97/24/25/29.97ND/29.97DF/30ND/30DF).
0.1% pull-up/pulldown setting of FS required for telecine is available.
Tri-Level Sync (tri-level sync) is also supported for HD recording as well as alignment to VIDEO, WORD, and DIGITAL.
PROFESSIONAL OPERATION. RUGGED RELIABILITY
During recording, the file-closing process is automatically performed in the background every minute. In the event of power failure or other unforeseen problems, file loss can be prevented and minimized.
A Pre Record function is provided for up to 10 seconds to prevent omissions at the start of recording. In addition, starting with Ver. 1.10, a Post Recording Cancel function is provided to resume recording with the same file by pressing the Rec key again during Post Recording (post-recording operation for the memory buffer).
Up to 99 CUE point memories can be registered.
Avid™ compatible EDL files (ALE) can be created/edited.
Equipped with a 9-pin REMOTE terminal, allowing remote control via ES-BUS by connecting two PD606⁄PD204 units.
Supported from Ver. 1.10.
Equipped with a backlit dot matrix LCD display showing a variety of information. A quick setup function allows immediate editing of major functions on the top screen without having to go deeper into the hierarchy. The level meter is equipped with a 16-point LED meter for excellent visibility.
A parallel remote terminal (mini-DIN 8PIN) is provided for external control of PLAY⁄STOP and other operations.
Slate tone generator (1 kHz⁄ reference level) and slate microphone. Slate tone can also be held.
