Features

High-quality uncompressed 8-track + 16-additional track configuration

High-quality uncompressed 8-track + 16-additive track configuration for recording the finest nuances of a performance. The recording media is a 3.5-inch hard disk, which can record approximately 15.6 hours on a 40GB HD when the full 8 tracks are used.

The 8 real tracks and 16 additional tracks can be freely interchanged to provide more room than 8 tracks.

Fostex’s proprietary “A.S.P.+” simulation algorithm engine enables highly accurate tone simulation of professional condenser/tube microphones and realistic reproduction of the sounds of famous tube guitar amplifiers.

Distortion optimized for guitar, bass, drums, and vocals can also be selected for use as a monitor insert effect (available on any one of tracks 1 through 6).

The monitor insert effect can be completed as a final effect-processed track by using the REC EFF mode after fine-tuning or replacing the tone afterwards.

There are 38 loop effects to choose from, including transparent reverbs, BPM delays, and pitch shifts. Professional-level ambience processing is possible (effect sends can be used on tracks 1 through 6).
There is one built-in effect. The monitor insert effect and loop effect cannot be used simultaneously.

Graphical 2-band EQ with 36 libraries is provided on tracks 1-6 for intuitive tone processing with HI/LO shelving, peaking, LPF/HPF, and more.

Bounce mode allows one-touch ping-pong recording from tracks 1-6 to tracks 7 and 8. This allows easy ping-ponging while applying loop effects without complicated internal mixing settings.

Inputs include two phones/unbalanced and two phantom-powered XLR jacks/balanced (with trim and peak LEDs) for condenser microphones.

Digital inputs and outputs as standard

Digital inputs and outputs (S/P DIF coaxial) are standard, allowing digital recording from CD/MD/DAT, etc. as well as digital mix-down.

Mixing settings such as fader, EQ, PAN, and effects can be titled, and up to 100 scenes can be stored per song.

Mixing scenes can be automatically switched and played back by specifying mark points (scene sequence function).

A professional-style audio scrubbing function with waveform display. In addition, edit points can be quickly registered while intuitively checking positions with the JOG dial.

Enhanced nondestructive editing, including copy/move/paste and erase, is available.

Up to 99 marks can be registered per song with names such as “Intro” and “Ending. Of course, you can also use marks for quick head start.

A program function for up to 99 songs is provided, allowing the user to freely set song names.

Equipped with ±6% varipitch function that allows pitch adjustment in 0.1% increments, and can also be used with the simple CD playback function that allows playback of CDs as-is.

Auto functions such as auto punch in/out with rehearsal function and loop are provided. Punch in/out with optional 8051 footswitch is also available.

A bar/beat resolution function is provided for convenient beat-by-beat audio editing.

Equipped with a two-track mode for functions that exceed those of an MTR. By activating the training mode, tracks 7 and 8 can be transformed into dedicated training tracks. You can playback your favorite musician’s song at 1/2 speed without changing the pitch, or play it back minus one by using the center (vocal) cancel function. You can also loop any section of the track, so you can practice your instrument or vocals to your heart’s content.

In mastering mode, tracks 7 and 8 become dedicated mastering tracks for internal mastering. The outputs of Tracks 7 and 8 of any program can be sent to Tracks 1 and 2 of a new program while processing the mastering effects to create the final two mixes. The mastering effects can be selected from a library of 10 effects, including Live Mix, Pop Mix, and Hard Mix, as well as 3-band EQ, avience, and comp editing for even more detailed results.

Various uses of VF80EX

The VF80EX has a built-in CD-R/RW drive. The completed 2Mix program can be used to create an original CD by specifying the order of songs as desired.

In addition, it is possible to back up recorded data to CD-R/RW discs, as well as export/import audio in WAV files (section/track designation possible).

The built-in tempo map with metronome function allows MIDI clock and song position pointers to be sent out, and slave operation is possible by simply supplying MTC from an external source. MTC/MMC compatibility enables full support for synchronization and remote control with rhythm machines and sequencers.

Chain play function allows continuous playback of up to 99 songs (programs) created in the main unit. In addition, the ability to load multiple/all songs from a single audio CD into a single program makes it possible to use the unit to stock a number of CDs.
