Features

High musicality in low frequency reproduction and
Music-designed subwoofer with LFE reproduction

With the spread of Blu-ray Discs (BDs) and the expansion of high-definition broadcasting, the realization of multi-channel realism is becoming more accessible.

In addition, BDs possess sound quality far superior to that of conventional video media, making it easy to realize a more realistic musical experience and bring us excitement.

What is required of subwoofers in this environment is both highly musical bass reproduction and effective reproduction of extraordinary LFEs such as explosions.

Conventional subwoofers, except for ultra high-end models, are designed with an emphasis on loud LFE (bass effect sound) reproduction by bass reflex, making it difficult to express the lowest frequencies of bass instruments.

The CW200A, with its sealed cabinet design, aims to achieve both musical performance that can reproduce the growl and resonance of bass instruments played at low volume, which is one of the most enjoyable aspects of a full orchestra, and LFE reproduction in a theater. Natural low-frequency extension is essential to convey the enjoyment and emotion that music has to offer.

Long stroke high efficiency 20cm woofer

In a personal use environment, the CW200A was designed to be capable of reproducing 32 Hz, the lowest note of a 5-string double bass, sufficiently well, and also to be able to feel the 16 Hz of a pipe organ.

To achieve this, a long-stroke, high-efficiency unit is a prerequisite.

The woofer has a highly rigid diaphragm made of a mixture of BKP pulp and Kevlar, driven by a powerful magnetic circuit of over 9000 gauss and a double-layer voice coil, ensuring a high efficiency of 90 (dB/wm JISBOX).

In addition, SBR foam rubber with high durability, light weight, and high internal loss is used for the edge to reduce natural sound, and a long stroke of 25mm p-p is realized for realistic bass sound reproduction.

Built-in amplifier for optimal crossover

The crossover frequency of the low-pass filter can be continuously controlled from 50Hz to 150Hz according to the combined speaker system.

The cutoff characteristic of the crossover point is set at 12 dB/oct for the most natural synthesis when using add-ons, and the unwanted bandwidth above 500 Hz is cut off at 18 dB/oct for clear sound field reproduction.

Enclosed cabinet

We adopted an orthodox sealed cabinet for accuracy to any extent.

The front baffle is made of the same 33mm-thick CE plywood (camphor/eucalyptus) (33mm-thick MDF for CW200A(GB)) used for the G2000, with different materials and thicknesses on the top and bottom sides and rear sides to achieve both high strength and vibration dispersion.

In addition, the amplifier section is housed in an independent chamber to avoid the influence of internal pressure. (About the sealed type) Every musical instrument has incidental sounds other than the intended sound.

These include the sound of air currents and valve operation in wind instruments, and the clicking sound of a stringed instrument when the bow is returned.

However, all of these sounds are played as part of the music, whereas the incidental sounds emitted from bass-reflex ducts are nothing more than noise.

The sealed type is less acoustically efficient because it does not utilize duct resonance, but it is the cabinet type that is most faithful to the input signal and can reproduce music as it really is.

Using CW200A active subwoofer
Add-on" method

The “add-on” method proposed by Fostex takes advantage of the features of the CW200A sealed active woofer.

Speakers and amplifiers are wired as usual, with the L and R speaker terminals connected to the CW200A speaker IN terminals.
