CW250A

A higher-end model of the CW200A active subwoofer.

Features

Further upgrade of CW200A

The CW200A is a further upgrade of the CW200A, which has realized an innovative musical experience of low frequency range extension.
By realizing reproduction of ultra-low frequency components, which is difficult even for large speakers, the CW200A expresses the reality of the size of a concert hall and the real image of a soloist.

It also reproduces LFE in home theaters with sufficient volume. The adaptive control function allows you to enjoy the visual arts by reproducing extraordinary sound effects with plenty of room to spare.

Long stroke high efficiency 25cm woofer

The CW250A has the ability to perfectly reproduce 32 Hz, the lowest note of a 5-string double bass, and almost even 16 Hz of a pipe organ.
This requires a long-stroke, high-efficiency unit.
The woofer of this unit has a highly rigid diaphragm made of a mixture of BKP pulp and Kevlar, driven by a special voice coil wound with a Motional Feedback (MFB) detection coil in a powerful magnetic circuit exceeding 1.1 Tesla, ensuring a high efficiency of 90 dB/wm (JIS BOX).
In addition, SBR foam rubber, which is durable, lightweight, and has high internal loss, is used for the edges to reduce natural sound, and a long stroke of up to 34.6 mm p-p is achieved to reproduce a realistic sound image.

Enclosed cabinet

An orthodox sealed cabinet was adopted for accuracy to any extent.
The front baffle is made of the same two pieces of 18mm CE plywood (camphor/eucalyptus plywood) as G2000, re-joined and 36mm thick, while the top and bottom sides and rear sides are made of different materials and thicknesses to achieve both high strength and vibration dispersion.

Motional Feedback (MFB)

The biggest problem with independent subwoofers is the increased group delay time.
An extreme example is when playing a jazz trio with a bass reflex type, the bass player can be heard playing backwards, which can be entertaining.
The delay of a sealed type is about half that of a bass-reflex type, but MFB is effective for further improvement.
The bassist can enjoy the pleasure of supporting the jazz at the correct tempo.

Maximum output sound pressure (106dB/60Hz) is stably achieved by a 300W PWM amplifier and a fast response limiter. 300W is obtained by BTL operation of the well-established ICEpower125ASX2, and the high sound quality of 2msec. attack time (actual measurement) / 700msec. release time (design value) is realized by feedback control with a fast response limiter. The feedback control with a limiter provides stable reproduction of maximum output sound pressure sufficient for personal use.

The limiter level setting does not operate during normal music playback, but only when playing movies with extraordinary ultra-low frequency and loud sound effects.

Adaptive control using VCHPF increases the power of explosion sounds (ultra-low frequency loud sound effects). The amplitude suppression is the result of the superimposed low-frequency signal.

By controlling the behavior of the woofer near this maximum amplitude with VCHPF (fc=25Hz), the low-frequency signal suppression is improved by more than 10dB, allowing you to enjoy the world of movies with the full potential of the 25cm woofer / 20ℓ cabinet / 300W amplifier ( The music source selector is activated only when MOVIE is selected).

Optimal crossover for add-ons

The crossover frequency of the low-pass filter can be continuously varied between 40Hz and 140Hz for optimum matching with the combined speaker system.
The cutoff characteristic at the crossover point is set at 12 dB/oct. for the most natural synthesis, and the unwanted band above 270 Hz is cut off at 36 dB/oct. for clear sound field reproduction.
