The NF-01A was born by thoroughly inheriting and condensing the innovative near-field concept of the NF-1/1A and eliminating all compromises. The NF-01A is the result of a pure concept that has nothing to do with the easy creation of a series of monitors by simply changing the diameter of the speaker units or compromising reproduction performance for the sake of compactness, but rather a high-dimensional reference performance that goes far beyond conventional compact powered monitors.
It is a revolutionary “compact reference” that can be used for recording on a desktop or in a private space, as well as for surround mixing in an outside studio.
Newly developed 13cm HP diaphragm woofer
Equipped with a newly developed 13cm woofer with a large magnetic circuit employing the ultimate diaphragm “HP diaphragm”. The woofer is capable of reproducing rich, speedy low frequencies that transcend its size, and realistic vocals without any flaws, which is a clear departure from conventional straight cone woofers.
The UDR Tangential Edge suppresses distortion and ringing caused by the addition of overtone components that are not included in the original sound, and combined with the effect of the push-pull double damper, it enables visible reproduction of the original sound from very low signals to loud sound reproduction. The soft dome tweeter, equivalent to the NF-1/1A, ensures a wide range and flat characteristics up to 40 kHz. The tweeter is highly matched with a 13cm woofer to provide a wider service area by enhancing the “point” sound source characteristic of the small aperture/compact size. The system is equipped with advanced sound field reproduction capability to minimize changes in the sound field caused by moving the listening point during monitoring.
Dedicated tuned low-noise power amplifier with Bi-AMP configuration
The same class Bi-AMP power amplifier as the NF-1A is used (LF: 50W, HF: 50W), thoroughly pursuing low distortion and low noise. The woofer and tweeter can be driven independently for optimum performance, thereby eliminating sound muddiness caused by electrical interference between the units.
The NF-01A is equipped with one of the largest transformers and heat sinks in its class in the power supply section to prevent distortion even when the output level is increased. Even under continuous load, the circuit operation of the power amplifier is always maintained in an optimum state to provide ample drive to match the superior speaker performance.
The separate structure of the enclosure and amplifier section eliminates excess resonance generated by amplifier components and other parts, enabling clear reproduction of the original sound. This eliminates the muddiness and squeal caused by unwanted resonance that tends to occur when the amplifier circuit is exposed inside the enclosure.
HP Sound Reflector for speedy low-frequency response
Despite its compact size, two unique HP sound reflectors are built into the enclosure. These reflectors enable efficient sound radiation from the bass-reflex port, which cannot be achieved with glass wool or other sound-absorbing materials, and reproduce low-frequency waves with an amazing sense of speed and dynamism.
The woofer, tweeter, and bass-reflex port are concentrated in a centralized layout. Not only can accurate localization be reproduced, but the wide service area unique to the small diameter is more reliably supported.
From the baffle to the back plate, the design focuses on the basics of enclosure construction. To eliminate sound muddiness caused by unwanted resonance, 15mm-thick MDF material is used for the box section and 18mm-thick MDF material for the baffle.
Flexible correction function for installation environment
The NF-01A can be placed on a desktop near a wall as the main monitor for a private recording system, mounted on a speaker stand as a monitor for a small PC-based recording system, or placed in a room with a lot of resonance or in a dead space, depending on various acoustic conditions. The NF-01A is capable of faithfully reproducing the original sound by compensating for these characteristic changes.
For example, the NF-01A has a LO FREQ (+2/0/-2dB at 55Hz) to compensate for unnatural low frequencies such as bass and kick depending on the installation location. The tweeter level can be adjusted in the range of ±3dB to compensate for high-frequency reverberation caused by wall reflections.
XLR-type (+4dBu balanced) and phone (-10dBV unbalanced) inputs are provided to support the monitor outputs of various equipment.
The magnetically shielded design allows for flexible installation in close proximity to video monitors.
