Active Sub Woofer
PM-SUBmini2

PM-SUBmini2

Auto standby function can now be turned on and off, improving usability during low volume playback.

Compact, high-quality active subwoofer that fits small active speakers such as PM0.3H.

Features

Functions added from PM-SUBmini2

Auto standby function can now be turned ON/OFF. The AUTO STANDBY MODE switch on the rear panel can be used to switch it on and off.

If the output level of the playback device is too low, the device may switch to standby mode at an unintended timing when you want to play at low volume.

If the output volume of the playback device is extremely low, trying to increase the volume of the PM-SUBmini2 or the main speakers alone may result in poor sound quality.

Main features and functions that have been retained from the PM-SUBmini (previous model)

●This active subwoofer is ideal for use with our PM0.3 series of compact, high sound quality active speakers and PM0.1 series.

The compact body incorporates a variety of technologies to achieve powerful bass while matching the size of the PM0.3 H and other speakers.

(1) The speaker diaphragm is made of a heavy, rigid glass fiber material with a large mesh mesh, which allows for high output reproduction of solid heavy bass sound even in a compact body.

(2) The center cap is also made of the same high-rigidity glass fiber material as the diaphragm, and its φ64mm concave shape ensures that it will not collapse under the large amplitude of the subwoofer.

(3) The enclosure is sealed to achieve both a compact body and speedy bass. In addition, the front baffle has a corner wood structure to firmly support the speaker section, enabling reproduction of realistic low frequencies.

(4) A four-layer voice coil, which is heavier than the usual two-layer voice coil, is used. This optimizes low-frequency reproduction by controlling sound pressure in the mid- and high-frequency range.

The compact body is generously equipped with a high-efficiency 50W high-power digital amplifier. The power supply is built into the main unit, eliminating the need for an AC adapter, which tends to get in the way during installation.

The amplifier is equipped with a FREQUENCY knob for adjusting the crossover frequency (60 to 150 Hz) and a phase switch for inverting the phase, allowing adjustment according to the main speakers connected, including the PM0. 3 series and PM0. 1 series, as well as the listening environment.

The RCA through jacks are equipped to output the input signal to the main speakers, allowing listening with the main speakers alone (a stereo RCA pin cable <1.5m> for connection to main speakers such as PM0.3 is included with this unit).

When a signal below a certain level (approx. -40dBV) is input to the unit for a long period of time, the auto standby function is activated* and power consumption is reduced to 0.5W or less. When a signal above a certain level is input again, the unit automatically returns to normal operation.

* The auto standby function may not operate properly depending on the noise level of the device connected to the input of this unit.

Best match with the PM0.3 and PM0.1 series of compact, high sound quality active speakers.

By combining our PM0.3 series and PM0.1 series compact, high-quality active speakers with the PM-SUBmini2, it is possible to add more powerful ultra-low frequencies to the clear, natural sound.

FAQ

Q
How do you decide which PHASE switch to use?
A

When using this unit in combination with our PM0.3 or PM0.1 active speakers (especially when the speakers are installed side by side), the PHASE switch can be left in the 180° position, but depending on the installation location, the 0° position may sound more natural. Please check by listening to the actual sound by switching the PHASE switch and selecting the one that gives the most natural sound reproduction.

Q
The unit automatically goes into standby mode in the middle of playback, is this a malfunction?
A

This is not a malfunction but a specification for power saving (auto-standby function). European ErP Directive, a regulation that mandates environmentally friendly design.

Powered speakers and power amplifiers equipped with the auto-standby function shift to standby mode when the volume remains below a certain level (not necessarily silence) for a certain period of time. The power will be restored when the input signal exceeds a certain level of loudness.

In some cases, the problem can be avoided by increasing the volume on the playback device.

The AUTO STANDBY MODE switch on the rear panel can be used to turn the auto standby function on or off.

Q
Can I connect and use active speakers and AV amplifiers (pre-main amplifiers) made by other manufacturers?
A

This product is designed to match with our active speakers PM0.3, PM0.1, etc.

It is also possible to use this product in connection with active speakers or AV amplifiers from other manufacturers, but depending on the combination of products connected, it may not work properly due to incompatibility in level matching, etc., or the original performance may not be obtained, or the sound connection may seem unnatural, etc. The sound connection may seem unnatural, etc.

Also, when connecting to the subwoofer output or preamplifier output of an AV amplifier, the PM-SUBmini2’s auto-standby function may be activated if a sound source with low bass volume is played for more than a certain period of time. If the auto-standby function is activated during playback, use a model that allows the volume control of the subwoofer output to be set separately from the main output and increase the volume of the subwoofer output, or use the AUTO STANDBY MODE switch on the rear panel of the unit to turn off the auto-standby function. This can be avoided by turning off the auto standby function with the AUTO STANDBY MODE switch on the back of the unit.

Caution!

If an AV amplifier is connected to a product that does not have a buffer amplifier in its preamplifier output circuit, the amplifier may malfunction or fail to operate. Products with simple preamplifier outputs that simply branch off from the main outputs may not have a buffer amplifier, so please check the specifications with the amplifier manufacturer you are using.

We have not tested the combination with other manufacturers’ products, so please be aware of this before use.

Q
The preamplifier has only one subwoofer output jack, but the PM-SUBmini has two input jacks (L/R). How should I connect them?
A

Connect to either the L or R input terminal on the PM-SUBmini; it is not necessary to connect to both L and R terminals.

Most subwoofer outputs on preamplifiers and other equipment mix L/R signals internally, and the PM-SUBmini does the same by mixing L/R signals internally.

This is because it is generally believed that the human auditory system has difficulty localizing low frequencies, and subwoofers are often used for monaural playback.

This does not mean that there is no localization in the low frequency range. In some systems, a subwoofer may be used in stereo.

Q
No sound is coming from the PM-SUBmini2.
A

The PM-SUBmini2 will be a speaker that reproduces a much lower bandwidth with a playback frequency response of 40 Hz to 150 Hz.

The PM-SUBmini2 will not sound unless the sound source to be played has recorded bass in this band.

In addition, turn the FREQUENCY knob to the 150Hz side and adjust the crossover frequency in conjunction with confirming that the volume of the PM-SUBmini2 is turned up.
